How to clean up the back of your neck between haircuts
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerUse a trimmer, not a razor, with the back to a mirror and a hand mirror in front. Follow your existing hairline, take off only stray hairs below it, and go slowly. When in doubt, leave it for the barber.
Tools
- A trimmer with a fine blade.
- A hand mirror and a wall mirror.
- Good light from above or the side.
Steps
- Find the barber’s existing line.
- Remove only hair clearly below that line.
- Short, light strokes downward.
- Check often with the two mirrors.
Don’t
- Don’t raise the line; it’s easy to go too high.
- Don’t use a razor on the back of your neck unless you’re confident.
