How to get your sideburns even
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerPick a facial landmark like the middle of the ear opening, trim one side to it, then use the same landmark on the other side. Check straight on in the mirror and with a front photo.
Use landmarks
Don’t judge by eye alone. The ear opening, cheekbone or a finger’s width above the ear lobe are reliable reference points.
Steps
- Comb the sideburn down.
- Trim the bottom edge level with your landmark.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Compare in a straight-on photo.
Go slow
Take a little at a time; you can always trim more.
Questions
Why do they look uneven in the mirror?
Tilting your head slightly makes them look different. A straight-on photo is more reliable.
