How to shave your own head
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerTrim everything short with clippers first, wash with warm water, use plenty of shaving cream, shave with the grain using light strokes and a sharp blade, then check the back with two mirrors and rinse with cool water.
Step by step
- Clip hair down to a short guard.
- Shower or use a warm towel to soften hair.
- Apply shaving cream or gel generously.
- Shave with the grain, light pressure, short strokes.
- Rinse the blade often.
- Optional second pass across the grain for closer results.
- Rinse with cool water and moisturise.
The back
Use a hand mirror and a wall mirror, or feel for missed patches with your fingertips. Shave View, a Crown feature, is designed to show the back live on a bigger screen.
Avoid cuts
- Use a sharp blade.
- Stretch the skin gently over bumps behind the ears.
- Go slowly around the ears and neck.
